Joseph P. Rank, M.D.
Dr. Rank is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology and has sub-specialty expertise in Gastrointestinal Pathology, Hepatobiliary Pathology, and Pancreatic Pathology. Dr. Rank, originally from Montana, attended medical school at the University of Washington in Seattle as a participant in the WAMI program. His residency training started in Lebanon, NH at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with a year of Laboratory Medicine. He completed the residency training in the departments of Anatomic Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Washington, including a year of surgical pathology fellowship training at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA. An interest in gastrointestinal pathology brought him back to Seattle, WA for a one-year fellowship in fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology under the direction of Drs. Rodger Haggitt, Mary Bronner, and Cyrus Rubin. After a second year of fellowship training as the first Gastrointestinal Pathology Fellow at UCLA, and two years of pathology practice in Las Vegas, NV, he returned again to Seattle in 1999 to join the pathology group at Swedish Medical Center, that became CellNetix Pathology.
Dr. Rank is past-president of the Washington State Society of Pathologists, and participates as Washington state deputy commissioner for the Laboratory Accreditation Program with the College of American Pathologists (CAP). He has also participated with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histotechnology Examination Committee and Pathology Assistant Examination Committee. He currently hosts a weekly teleconference where pathologists around the state can share interesting cases and participate in discussions on gastrointestinal pathology.
