- 2010 CAP Specimen Update
The College of American Pathologists, our laboratory accreditation agency, now requires that all specimens be labeled with at least two unique identifiers. The following are acceptable identifiers:
· Patient Name
· Patient Date of Birth
· CellNetix Requisition Label
· Medical Record Number
· Epic Order Number
It is recommended that the source of the specimen also be indicated on the container and match the source of the requisition. This is especially important when multiple specimens collected from the same patient are submitted together.
Effective February 1, 2010, any specimens received without two patient identifiers will be returned to the submitting physician’s office. Once appropriately labeled, they can be submitted back to our laboratory for prompt processing.
