Histotechnician On-The-Job Training
A histotechnician is a laboratory professional that specializes in preparing microscope slides of tissue specimens for the diagnosis of disease. A trained technician is experienced in numerous techniques like embedding, microtomy, histochemical staining, frozen sectioning, and immunohistochemistry. Advanced training can include renal and muscle biopsies, hard tissue sectioning, electron microscopy, and ocular sectioning among others.
CellNetix employs histotechnicians on all shifts seven days a week. We have begun an on-the-job histotechnician training program for accepted applicants. Eligibility to take the certification exam has been traditionally been through an accredited college program or after one years of practical training for people with a qualifying college degree.
After an initial period of practical training and practice on non-patient samples a trainee is given some duties of a normal technician. As they develop their skills more difficult tasks are explained, demonstrated, trained and then assigned. We assign a senior certified technician to mentor the trainee. Our expectation is that these practical trainees will be ready to take the exam after the training year.
CellNetix Laboratories Embarks On A Partnership With Indiana University
CellNetix has signed an agreement with Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana to take part in their remote histotechnology training program. Histotechnology is a specialized branch of laboratory medicine which deals with preparing microscope slides of tissue specimens for the diagnosis of disease.
This 10 month, four semester program includes both lecture and practical courses. The lecture courses are offered by teleconference once a week during the day. Practical work is accomplished at CellNetix and under the direction of a designated Clinical Education Supervisor. After successfully completing the course a student will be granted an Associates degree in Histotechnology from Indiana University and be eligible to sit for the ASCP certification examination.
This program was designed specifically for employed histologists wanting to further their education. CellNetix has committed to providing all of the practical supplies for participants in this program. Additionally, the company will be reimbursing the student’s educational expenses after the successful completion of the program.
