Ubiquitin

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

Ubiquitin is a hallmark of many chronic diseases, including muscle disorders (desmin myopathies, inclusion body myositis), neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson's disease, cortical Lewy body disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and liver disease (Mallory's hyaline in alcoholic liver disease). It is a useful marker in the differential diagnosis of the sporadic form of inclusion body myositis (sIBM) from other inflammatory conditions of muscle.
