Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

CD57 marks a subset of lymphocytes, including natural killer (NK) cells and large granular T-lymphocytes, and may be useful in the diagnosis of neoplasms derived from the corresponding cell types. The finding of CD57-positive lymphocytes, particularly around L&H cells (CD57+ "collarette") is valuable in the diagnosis of lymphocyte-predominance Hodgkin lymphoma. CD57 may also be used in identifying neural structures, and may be included in the panel for nerve sheath tumors.
